The United States Sentencing Commission collects, analyzes, and disseminates a wide array of information about federal crime and sentencing practices, which is available here. In addition to its reports, the Commission provides what it calls the Case Law Concierge–which is a compilation of selected cases on various topics to assist the public in understanding and applying the sentencing guidelines. Topics include the: (1) categorical approach; (2) chapter 3 adjustments; (3) criminal history; (4) immigration; (5) relevant conduct; (6) restitution; (7) sentencing procedure; and (8) supervised release. Users can filter the topics by circuit.
As the Commission warns, “[t]he content is neither definitive nor comprehensive, and users should conduct their own independent legal research.”
The Training Division provides sentencing resource materials that will help you argue for the best sentence possible for your clients.
