Training Event Description
Join the Training Division in Chicago for the 2027 Federal Trial Skills Academy (TSA), August 15-20, 2027!
Recognized as the nation’s premier trial skills program for federal criminal defense practitioners, TSA is the only immersive advocacy program designed exclusively for Federal Defenders and CJA panel attorneys. For almost two decades, it has been the gold standard for developing the courtroom skills, strategic judgment, and persuasive advocacy required in federal criminal practice.
Through a blend of plenary sessions, live demonstrations, and intensive small-group workshops, participants learn to develop compelling case theories, craft persuasive themes, and sharpen every phase of trial advocacy. Every exercise is paired with individualized coaching and immediate feedback from an exceptional faculty of accomplished federal criminal defense trial lawyers.
One of TSA’s unique features is its use of professional actors in witness and client exercises, infusing the program with added energy and realism.
Participants bring their own pending cases, transforming the Academy into an intensive six-day litigation laboratory. Guided by faculty and colleagues from across the country, attendees brainstorm and refine trial strategy, test ideas, troubleshoot difficult issues, and return home with practical solutions they can use immediately in court.
Because the Academy is built on progressive learning and collaborative small-group work, participants are expected to attend the program in its entirety. Attendance at every session, from the opening program through the jury verdict, is required. Please plan your travel accordingly, as early departures are incompatible with the Academy’s curriculum or the commitment made to your faculty and fellow participants.
Whether you are preparing for your first federal jury trial or your fiftieth, TSA offers an unmatched opportunity to strengthen your advocacy alongside the finest federal criminal defense lawyers in the country.
Mark your calendars, save the date, and don’t miss out!
