In-Person Training Event Description
The Law & Technology Series: Electronic Courtroom Presentation (ECP) Workshop provides CJA panel attorneys, assistant federal public defenders, and federal defender organization staff with legal, strategic, and technological tools to present information persuasively in federal courtrooms for trials and hearings. This program uses a combination of plenary presentations and small group, hands-on instruction. In the smaller breakout groups, attendees will practice how defense teams can utilize courtroom technology during direct and cross-examination, opening statements and closing arguments, using PowerPoint and Trial Director software which are well suited for electronically presenting information in the courtroom.
To get the most out of the small-group sessions, attendees are strongly encouraged to brin their own case materials (hearing or trial), particularly for the PowerPoint portion of the workshop. Working with your own facts means the skills and exhibits you build at the workshop can be applied directly for your next hearing or trial. All attendees are required to bring their own laptop computer for the workshop. In order to be considered for admission, all applicants MUST complete and return a short skill set rubric (SSR) before an individual registration submission is finalized. This allows the workshop organizers to group participants by experience level. NOTE: the presentation software programs used in this workshop are designed to work on Windows operating systems (as opposed to Mac). If accepted, you must bring a laptop running Windows, or a Mac laptop running a virtualized copy of Windows.
