New York City Mayor Eric Adams has been indicted on five charges, including bribery, fraud and taking foreign donations (article available here). The mayor insists he is innocent.
Early Thursday, federal agents descended upon the mayor's official residence, Gracie Mansion. Adams, who has served as the city’s 110th mayor since January 2022, is accused of receiving luxury travel and other benefits from a Turkish official and in exchange, pressuring New York City’s Fire Department to open a Turkish consular building without a fire inspection.
The alleged conduct predates Adams', a former police captain, time as mayor and dates back to a decade ago to his time as Brooklyn Borough President.
Federal law prohibits U.S. candidates from soliciting or receiving foreign donations.
