The U.S. Sentencing Commission's 2023 amendments to the federal sentencing guidelines take effect today, November 1, 2023.

This new Guidelines are the first substantively new version of the book since 2018 because the U.S. Sentencing Commission was without a quorum for nearly four years.

Given the substantial potential for litigation concerning the new guidelines, particularly the retroactive application of the criminal history rules, the Training Division has scheduled a live webinar on November 14, 2023, on Retroactive Application of New Criminal History Guidelines Amendment 821.
