Large Trump Banner Displayed at Justice Department Building

Published on:

A large banner featuring Donald Trump's face was hung on the exterior of Justice Department headquarters on Thursday in a physical display of the president's efforts to exert power over the law enforcement agency that once investigated him, according to this PBS article.

The banner, hung between two columns on one corner of the building, says, "Make America Safe Again."

The Justice Department has traditionally operated with a degree of independence from the White House.

Banners bearing Trump's image were affixed last year to the Department of Labor, the Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Institute for Peace buildings.

Critics said the banner represents a significant and inappropriate politicization of the DOJ, arguing that it visually signals the department is acting as an extension of the president's political agenda rather than an impartial law enforcement agency.
