Senior U.S. District Judge Robert Conrad has stepped down from serving on the Western District of North Carolina after 20 years on the federal bench, leaving him to continue his role as director of the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts, reported Tuesday.
Conrad, 65, is a former federal prosecutor who served as the U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina from 2001 to 2004. He was appointed to the bench by former President George W. Bush in 2005.
As director of the Administrative Office, he oversees an agency with over 1,000 employees that provides administrative support to judges and federal public defenders nationally.
