Biden Pardons 11 and Commutes Sentence for 5 Others in Honor of Second Chance Month

Published on:

On Wednesday, April 24, 2024, President Biden pardoned 11 individuals and commuted the sentence of 5 additional individuals detained in federal prison. In total, 16 detainees were granted clemency in honor of Second Chance Month. President Biden announced that his decision to grant clemency to these 16 individuals was in large part due to the “‘disproportionately longer’” sentences they received and his commitment to addressing racial disparities in the criminal legal system. All who received clemency were non-violent drug offenders.
