The Investigator Playbook Series, Session 2: Use of Active Listening Skills to Ensure Accurate Understanding of Interviewees

This session explores how information is transferred between an interviewer and an interviewee, and how active listening skills help ensure accurate understanding throughout the interview. Training goals include:

  1. Understanding how information is transferred from one person to another during an interview;
  2. Recognizing each person’s role in the information transfer process;
  3. Identifying factors that can negatively affect accurate communication; and
  4. Applying the three core components of active listening—being attentive to behavior, using affirmations, and restating responses—to promote accurate understanding.
