    The Winning Strategies Seminar brings together a dynamic group of attorneys, and other legal professionals, speaking on a wide variety of topics, all specifically designed to keep CJA practitioners abreast of the most recent and important developments in federal criminal defense.  Sessions include both large plenary lectures as well as smaller breakouts that meet the specific needs of the advanced practitioner and the less experienced attorney alike.  Sessions will include such topics as developing immigration trends and how they may impact your federally accused client, cultural competency, recurring issues in drug and gun cases, trends in new sentencing strategies in a post-Booker world, fundamentals of a federal criminal case, federal case law updates, Fourth Amendment issues, ethics and more.

    The Fundamentals of Federal Criminal Case Seminar is a program specifically designed with the new federal practitioner in mind.  If you are new to the world of federal criminal defense, this seminar will introduce you to subjects essential for effective representation of clients in federal criminal court.  Attendees will have the luxury of learning, asking questions and working with other participants who are also new to this difficult area of practice.  Topics to be cover include:  Client Interviewing, The Bail Reform Act, Pretrial Motions, Investigation in CJA cases, Getting the Most out of Plea Agreements, Cooperation, and Navigating the Dangers of a Proffer; Federal Sentencing Guidelines, and Practical Tips If Your Client Faces Incarceration in a Federal Prison. The Fundamentals Seminar will begin on February 19 and conclude by lunchtime on February 20.  Fundamentals participants are welcome to attend the second and third day of the Winning Strategies Seminar on Friday and Saturday, February 20 to February 21.  For more details about Winning Strategies, see the program description on fd.org.  To attend both programs, individuals must enroll separately for the Fundamentals and Winning Strategies seminars.
